PRACTICAL NURSING INFO SESSION IN ST. MARTINVILLE Sept. 15

An informational session for students interested in SLCC’s Practical Nursing program at the Evangeline Campus will be held on Monday, Sept. 15. The event will start at 5:30 p.m. and conclude at 7 p.m. The campus is located at 600 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in St. Martinville.
Practical nursing graduates can sit for the exam to become Licensed Practical Nurses. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor, LPNs can earn more than $40,000 annually. LPNs provide basic nursing care and work under the direction of registered nurses and doctors.
Employment of LPNs is projected to grow 25 percent from 2012 to 2022, much faster than the average for all occupations. As the baby-boom population ages, the overall need for healthcare services is expected to increase. LPNs will be needed in residential care facilities and in home health environments to care for geriatric patients.
