Breaux Bridge public library now open in temporary location

Today marks the first business day of the new year and, for the Breaux Bridge library, its opening at a temporary Rees Street facility in the Park Plaza Shopping Center near Winn Dixie.

The Breaux Bridge branch was closed from Dec. 2, 2013, through Jan. 1, 2014, in order to move from its downtown location to temporary quarters while a new 12,000 square foot facility is being constructed at the original downtown site.

Due to the size of the temporary site and good planning by library staff, one does not get the impression that these are “make do” quarters. Different sections of the library are thoughtfully laid out with adequate spacing throughout. Branch manager Lester Latiolais said that orderly movement of library sections and book stacks from the old location was essential to the successful set up at the temporary site.

Parish Librarian Charlar Brew said that she and her staff are pleased with the interim location and eagerly look forward to returning to the heart of downtown Breaux Bridge in what will be a first class facility.

Hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
