INVESTIGATORS WITH THE ST. MARTIN PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE ARE ASKING FOR THE PUBLIC’S ASSISTANCE IN LOCATING CONTRACTOR
The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a complaint regarding Neal Joseph Laperouse, 51, a contractor who allegedly defrauded two people in St. Martin Parish by taking money from them without performing the work.
Deputies said Laperouse has outstanding warrants for similar types of contractor fraud from Lafayette Sheriff’s Office, Lafayette Police Department, and Acadia Sheriff’s Office.
Laperouse’s last known residence was in Branch. However, he has had several residences in the Acadiana area.
SMSO cautions the public to be careful when hiring a contractor for home improvement renovations. Check with the Better Business Bureau to see if any complaints have been lodged against them prior to hiring them and ask for references. Be especially cautious of anyone asking for money up front.
Anyone having any information as to the whereabouts of Laperouse is asked to contact the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office at (337) 394-3071.
