Troopers Arrest a Breaux Bridge Man for Attempted Manslaughter of a St. Martin Parish Deputy

Breaux Bridge – On September 8, 2015 shortly after 12:00 am, Detectives with the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations were contacted by the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office in reference to one of their Deputy’s being injured while attempting to make an arrest.

During the investigation, Detectives learned the Deputy observed 22 year old Donald Clement Jr. of Breaux Bridge, in his vehicle, engaged in what he believed to be illegal narcotic activities. The Deputy approached Clement’s vehicle, and identified himself as a Sheriff’s Deputy. Clement accelerated and drove through the parking lot with the Deputy hanging onto the driver’s side door. Clement drove approximately 500 feet with the Deputy hanging onto his car before he crashed into a fence and fled the scene on foot. The Deputy became separated from the vehicle just prior to the crash.

The St. Martin Parish Deputy sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

Shortly after fleeing the scene, Clement was located and taken into custody. He was transported to the St. Martin Parish Jail and booked by the Breaux Bridge Police Department on DWI and several traffic violations. Clement was also booked on arrest warrants obtained by State Police Detectives for Attempted Manslaughter and Resisting a Police Officer with Force or Violence.

The investigation remains ongoing and additional charges are possible.
