Valla Johnson

Mallalieu United Methodist Church has a new pastor

Rev. Valla Johnson has been appointed as licensed local pastor to Mallalieu United Methodist Church by Bishop Cynthia Fierro Harvey of the Louisiana Conference.
Rev. Johnson is a native of Lake Charles and has been an active Methodist all her life.
Previous church involvement includes teaching Sunday School, Bible School and Bible Study.
Rev. Johnson was codirector of Lay Servant Ministries for the Lake Charles District of the United Methodist Church, conference director of the Daughenbaugh Matheny Scholarship Fund and the Bishop William B. and Kay Hutchinson Scholarship Fund, a member of the Lake Charles District Ministry Team and a former district officer of the United Methodist Women. She has also served as a board member of the Wesley Foundation at McNeese State University.
Rev. Johnson has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in sociology and a master’s degree in social work.
She works as the Disproportionality Program administrator for the Calcasieu Parish School System.
She is a member of the Calcasieu Parish Children and Youth Planning Board and the Stop The Madness Advisory Board.
Rev. Johnson describes herself as the “proud mother of one son, a daughter-in-law and four lovely grandchildren.”
She says she looks forward to teaching and preaching the word of God to the Mallalieu and St. Martinville community, and that she is eager to work with other denominations in ecumenical activities.
