Fire & Water’s featured artist is Michelle Fontenot

Artist Michelle Fontenot has been selected as the featured artist for this year’s Le Feu et l’Eau-Fire and Water Rural Arts Celebration, Dec. 6.

Fontenot is a full time artist working mainly in glass, either as mosaics or leaded panels.

Trained in ceramics at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Fontenot operates her own business: M. Fontenot Glassworks. She travels extensively throughout the southern United States participating in numerous art shows. Her work is regularly shown at galleries in Lafayette, Arnaudville, and New Orleans.

In recent years her artwork has expanded to include recycled-and-found art sculptures, the original functional-glass mosaic “Not So Lazy Susans,” and design for festival posters.

In 2011, Fontenot and two other artists collaborate on artwork for “Festivals International de’ Louisiane.”

She lives in Opelousas, with her husband, three children, two dogs, two cats, and thirty chickens.

Fontenot is also the lead artist for the Gone to the Birds project, a cultural and artistic exchange between Louisiana and the Brittany region of France.
