Butte La Rose

Helen Boudreaux

Bonjour!
I’m proud of grandson Noah Trahan for volunteering help at the city wide garage sale last weekend to earn hours for his confirmation!
Did y’all know there is a bluegrass jam session at Tom’s Fiddle and Bow in Arnaudville on the first Sunday of each month. I will plan to carry my body there soon.
My brother Larry’s wife, Patricia “Mom” McGee Boudreaux, died last week. “Pish” as she was known to everyone was 66 years old. Her service was officiated by Pastor Sherman Soileau. Her wake was at the Henderson Bible Church in Henderson where they have been members for countless years. The church also serves as a funeral home. And have their own cemetery in the back of their property. That is where her soul lies at rest.
Pish enjoyed making memories with family and friends. She loved to cook for everyone and always made sure everyone was taken care of. She enjoyed listening to her music, playing cards and playing bingo. She loved also to sit and visit with everyone with a good cup of coffee. The most important thing to Pish was spoiling her six children, 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and spending the last 50 years with the love of her life, Larry. She will be greatly be missed.
She is also survived by sons Robert Boudreaux and wife Jolene, and son Timothy Boudreaux; daughters, Darlene Courville and husband Buddy, Miranda Snyder, Charrie Angelle and husband Rickey, and Kayla Boudreaux; brother, Dakota “Dick” McGee; sister Beulah McGee, grandchildren, Tyler, Meghan, Dillon, Robbie, Jasa, Logan, Jana, Jonathan, Gavin and Jonah; and great-grandchildren, J’olie, Carter and Maddix. Pall bearers were Robert Boudreaux, Timothy Boudreaux, Dakota McGee, Dillon Courville, Tyler Courville and Robbie Boudreaux.
My contribution for my sister-in-law Patricia’s funeral Mass service was my pleasure to sit on the alter with my guitar and sing a half hour of Gospel songs for her company of family and friends. I am grateful to God for the gift.
Also sad was the death of Roland “Yan” LeGrand from Henderson. Yan was 67 years old. His Mass was at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and is buried at St. Michael Cemetery. Both are located in Henderson.
He is survived by his daughters; Brandy Wiltz and husband Chad, Dawn Menard and husband Blake; his son, Codi LeGrand and wife Courtney; his grandchildren, Taylor and Skylor Wiltz, Kaylee Borel, Kade Menard, and Cameron LeGrand; his former wife Fabian Clark; and his brothers, Steve and wife Mary, Russell and wife Dianne, and Randy LeGrand; his godchild, Jolene Boudreaux; and numerous nieces and nephews.
At his coffin at the Pellerin Funeral Home I sang Our Hail Mother au français for his family. I want to sing something in French, even the Our Father at funerals because many of the family and friends are French speaking. And I hear them singing along with me.
Yan’s funeral was unique. His pallbearers were all dressed in camouflage as was he in his coffin. Pallbearers: Russell LeGrand, Codi LeGrand, Randy LeGrand, Blake Menard and Skylor Wiltz.
Grinding season has begun. Be on the lookout for the sugar cane trucks out there hauling cane to the refinery’s. Ain’t no more horses pulling wagons full of sugar cane hanging over it’s sides on the dirt road anymore. Humm! Come to think of it, ain’t no more dirt roads. We are up-town from the olden days. There’s still many of us out here who’d live again old times. And some Cajuns in their 40s and 50s lived what I am saying.
There were derricks in designated areas, maybe someone’s pasture, where the farmer would bring his wagon with cane piled high across chains inside the wagon and the chains were lifted high by this derrick and put it in a big truck and carried away. We had one in our yard. Remember the mud?
