Butte La Rose

Helen Boudreaux

Bonjour!
Neighbors helping neighbors, especially coming to the aid of seniors. Moi! The Labordes across the road from me had a deck built to their camp last week. It is beautiful! When they’ll BBQ, I’ll be smelling here. Ha! Of course curious me went check it out. In their back yard was a treated wooden pallet measured three by six feet that did not look like it was to be of use to them anymore. So I asked sister Anne what were they going to do with it. Because I said if they were not going to make use of it I’d gladly take it off their hands.
And I’d use it as a platform at my back porch steps because what I’m using there now is unsafe. Well, she gave me the thumbs-up. Saturday morning David was walking in their yard so I went by there to talk with him a bit and he asked if I had someone to carry the pallet to my house. He would have done it for me. I said I would call someone this week. With his chain saw he cut out the wooden legs that were cemented on for weight so to make handling easier. Thank you, neighbors.
So now, who was I going to call for help? I thought of my grandsons Justin and Chris, busy at work, so I called our Fire Chief Blake Menard, who is closer by and always insisting if help is needed to let him know. I took him up on his offer and he said to me, no problem, Miz Helen, and came by at midday today, pulled up to the Laborde camp, loaded it up in his pickup and brought it here. Blake did a little wood trimming with the jig saw, a little hammering of nails to replace a couple loose boards and, voila, I got me an extended bottom step. Fits perfect. See how good God is to me? I am so relieved to have this because what I had there were three boards that would float away after a heavy rain and was otherwise unbalanced to step on.
Remember a couple of weeks ago Chief Blake and his posse of volunteer firefighters got together and put on that iron pot cook-off fund raiser for the fire station? He said the cook-off was a success. He and his wife, Dawn, say thank you all for everyone’s support. (He said it’s too bad the pontoon bridge still has that height bar across the top. Firetrucks can’t pass underneath.)Thank you Chief.
Please deliver a message to Fred and Gladys Coy to locate their cat before closing their door for the night. Woke up one morning the cat was missing. Did not come for its food. Fred opened the door to go search for it and the cat was stuck between the wooden and glass doors. Cat lazily stretched out its legs and went about its business.
I discovered another Bluegrass jam down the road two Saturdays ago. I like that music, me. We all sit in a circle and we all get our turns to sing a song of our choice.
Of course we sing songs of way back when. In my opinion there is not much new in country music that compares to the old Bluegrass and Hillbilly. And what I appreciate is the fact that I am looked upon as one of the group. And we all sing harmony. If you think about it, it’s kind of late in life to find a pastime I love so much. But know what? It’s never too late! Bien merci. And thank you Cousin Gerald Champagne dan Grande Houston.
