Baja St. Martin
I have been to the hospital, had a few things excised and I’m home again, a bit sore but still moving. Hopefully this will be my last surgery for many, many years. In case you ever have colon issues (excuse the topic) I highly recommend Dr. Kelly Finan, OLOL colo/rectal specialist. She’s very young but surely seems to know her business.
My daughter from Pensacola is staying with me for a few days and it is so nice to have someone to depend upon for all the little stuff each day brings.
We awoke this morning to chilly temps, a north wind blowing and no rain. I think there has been no rain for almost a month now. A light freeze is forecast for tonight I believe but whatever the TV says means 4 or 5 degrees warmer here probably due to the mitigating effects of the river. So I won’t worry yet about plants.
Food for Seniors will be on Nov. 20, don’t forget. I will be there to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and to help give out the double boxes of foodstuffs. I won’t be calling folks this time, so please, everyone mark the date and don’t forget to come. Same places, same times. This is the last distribution until January.
A bit later now... The temperature last night was lower than I’d expected so I’m hoping my plants survived. My wonderful daughter has gone back home to Pensacola. I miss her but I’m doing okay. Less pain every day. I will try to get outside today at least to walk the dog a short way, maybe a few local errands.
Monday coming is the Morgan City Community Concert performance of Alex DePue, violinist with guitar player Miguel de Hoya. Should be good. If you’re over this way, I have several complimentary tickets which I’d be glad to share with you. Just catch me at the door of the municipal auditorium in M.C.
My sisters both tell me they’re getting snow. Not a lot yet, but it’s a start. I will try to go up for a visit after Christmas. Before Christmas, I will be heading to Orlando with my family for my granddaughter’s graduation from the University of Central Florida. She will have a degree in public administration and a minor in non-profit studies. While I was in the hospital we received a text from her that she had been offered a full time job with the Down’s Syndrome Society of SE Florida where she has been interning. She’s excited about the offer; we’re excited for her. Now comes the hard part of learning to live on her own income! No more grants, scholarships, etc.
All we’ve heard from the DNR is that FAS has “fixed” its application and we might expect a public hearing sometime in January. I just hope it takes place here in Belle River.
It appears the hummingbirds have left for the winter. My feeder hangs deserted. My purple martin houses are lying on the dock where I put them for the winter so I won’t have to worry about them being blown over. The brisk wind is blowing cypress balls onto the tin roof, the squirrels are busy dashing up and down the trees, no birds except a few mockingbirds. Winter is here!
