With the District 6-2A final standing starting to take shape, the Lady Trojans are seeing the light at the end of the title. Coupled with the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s decision to go to seeding in softball and baseball, the girls who wear blue and gold are also cognisant they must keep winning in order to get a first round home game. They kept a positive pace in that mission by defeating Westminster and Port Barre recently.

The Lady Trojans crushed the Lady Crusaders of Westminster 12-1 over the Easter holidays. Logan Hebert hurled a two-hitter and allowed just one earned run in the contest. She fanned six batters and passed one walk.

Sacred Heart scored three runs in the first inning to get things going, and then scored in the next three at bats. They ended the game after a three-run sixth inning.

Courtney Ramirez had a big day at the plate. She was 2-5 with a double and she scored twice. Kinzey Franks, Sarah Dupre, Lauren Fontenot and Danyelle Fontenot all hit singles in the contest. Extra base hits came from Laura Coreil and Shelby Fontenot who each doubled and Anne-Marie Fontenot who roped a triple in the fourth inning.

Westminster’s hit came from Alanna Ortego who doubled and Bailey Thompson who hit a triple.

The Lady Trojans fought a tough battle with the Lady Red Devils of Port Barre. It was a classic Port Barre-Sacred Heart softball game with a one-run victory for the local ladies.

Port Barre got the lead in the top of the third inning. A walk to Sarah Sharkey, coupled with a stolen base on an error, led to the run crossing the plate.

The 1-0 lead lasted until the Sacred Heart girls got hot in the bottom of the fourth stanza. The SHHS girls exploded for five runs in the inning that saw 10 SHHS ball players come to the plate.

Kinzey Franks got things going by reaching base on an error. She moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Sarah Dupre. Laura Coreil singled and Logan Hebert reached on an error to load the bases. A one-out double from Kelsey Jagneaux drove in two runs, giving the girls in blue and gold the lead. The inning continued when Shelby Fontenot came to the dish. She cranked out another double, scoring two more runs. When Hannah Enicke reached base on an error, Fontenot was able to cross the plate, making it a 5-1 ball game.

The Lady Trojans looked to be in charge and were on cruise control going into the sixth frame. Port Barre fired back with three runs, making it a one-run contest.

With one out, Lauren Thibodeaux reached base on an error. She scored on a double from pitcher Courtney Hardy. When Leslie Grimmell reached base on an error, Hardy crossed the plate. Next batter, left fielder Hannah Bourgeous, singled to score Grimmell.

With the score 5-4 and second place in the district hanging in the ballots, the Lady Trojans stiffened up and held Port Barre from scoring again.

Logan Hebert got the victory on the mound. She went all seven innings, allowing just four hits and one walk. She fanned seven Port Barre batters. Hardy took the loss for PBHS. She went the distance, allowing six hits and fanning two batters.

Sacred Heart stands at 7-3 in district. Mamou took on Opelousas Catholic Tuesday but those results were unavailable at press time. The Lady Demons were 6-3 going into that contest. If Mamou won that game, it would set up a battle for second place today. Mamou will host Sacred Heart at 5 p.m.
