Bulldogs explode past Spartans

Cecilia – The resurgent Cecilia Bulldogs got their 2015 season off to a promising start, blasting the Class 5A Comeaux Spartans by 28-0 here last Friday.
The Bulldog offense cranked out an even 400 yards while the defensive unit turned in a strong effort, limiting the visitors to just 118 net yards.
Cecilia rolled to a 21-0 halftime lead and then pretty much coasted through the final period in the shutout victory.
Senior running back Raymond Calais, who sat out most of the fourth quarter, finished with 250 yards and three touchdowns to spark the Bulldog attack.
But senior quarterback Landon Roberts also provided lots of firepower, completing four of nine tosses for 113 yards and the fourth touchdown. Three of the passes, including the TD, went to senior flanker Kenya Dartez.
Comeaux started out well enough, driving to the Cecilia 6-yard-line on its first possession before running out of gas.
But late in the opening period Roberts found Dartez open for a 62-yard bomb and Tanner Olivier kicked the first of his four PATs to put the ’Dogs up 7-0 going into the second stanza.
Calais struck for two scores before intermission, going 51 yards through the middle of the Spartan defense for one and then getting a 6-yard TD after Cecilia cornerback Sonny Angelle intercepted a Comeaux pass at the Spartan 20.
The Bulldogs wasted little time putting the game out of reach in the second half, taking the opening possession and driving 73 yards in eight plays for the game’s final score. Calais went 26 yards for the TD just three minutes into the third period.
Cecilia travels to Lafayette Friday to meet an old district foe at Northside. The Vikings were trounced 49-0 by Acadiana last week.
