Dorothy Beyt Broussard

New Iberia – A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2008, at St. Peter Catholic Church for Dorothy Beyt Broussard, 88, who died Monday, April 7, 2008, in Lafayette.

Interment followed in St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.

Msgr. Robert Angelle was the celebrant. Readers were Kathleen Shea Svendson and Robert D. Beyt. Gift bearers included Virginia G. Dabadie, Kristine Z. Broussard, Stephanie Shea Zehner, Suzy Shea Kimball, Ashley E. Broussard, Maureen Shea Smith, Kathleen Shea Svendson, Sheila Beyt Molbert and Elizabeth Beyt Judice.

Musicians for the Mass included Karen Guidry organist, Jodi Bollich soloist, Will Green trumpeter, and Lauren Baker violinist. Selections were “Amazing Grace,” “Ave Maria,” “I Can Only Imagine,” “Be Not Afraid,” and “On Eagles Wings.”

A native of St. Martinville and longtime resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Broussard was the matriarch of the Beyt-Bonin family. She was a true lady who was very graceful and cared deeply for others by placing them before herself. Enjoying life to the fullest, she formally entertained and prepared meals for family and friends from around the world. A mother of love and affection, Mrs. Broussard was respected by everyone.

Survivors include her son, Samuel “Sammy” S. Broussard Jr. and wife Kristine of New Iberia; daughters, Simone Broussard Guillory of New Iberia, Lamar Broussard Lopresto and husband Michael of New Iberia, Michelle Broussard Cart and husband Andy of Lafayette; sister, Barbara Beyt Shea Jones of New Iberia; 10 grandchildren, two step grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and two step great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Broussard Sr.; parents, Dr. John Lamar and Eula Bonin Beyt; brothers, Dr. John “Putsy” Lamar Beyt Jr. and Branan Berchman Beyt

Pallbearers were Samuel “Sammy” S. Broussard, Edward Stewart Shea Jr., John “Johnny” Lamar Beyt III, Branan “Bert” Berchman Beyt Jr., Michael D. Lopresto, Andrew “Andy” Cart, and Robert D. “Bob” Beyt.

Honorary pallbearers included Michael L. Guillory, Shea C. Guillory, Christopher B. Jones, Jeremy M. Jones, Bob G. Guillory, Michael D. Lopresto Jr., Kent Broussard, John Winnfield Murphey, Kenneth Broussard, Dennis Broussard and Pierre Broussard.

A rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
