Lake Charles Woman Charged With Bringing Contraband Into Jail

On Saturday, November 9, 2013, at approximately 9:55 a.m., Demita Kneeland, 27, Lake Charles, along with a male juvenile, were visiting an inmate at the St Martin Parish Correctional Center. During the course of the visitation, it was discovered that Ms. Kneeland attempted to conceal synthetic cannabinoids in a greeting card. Upon closer inspection of the item by the shift supervisor, it was discovered that the greeting card concealed a green leafy substance consistent with the appearance and odor of Synthetic Marijuana.

Following the discovery of the contraband, Ms. Kneeland was booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on the following charges:

La. R.S. 14:402 Introduction of Contraband to a Penal Institution
La. R.S. 40:966 Possession of Synthetic Cannabinoids
La. R.S. 14:92 Contributing to the Delinquency of a Juvenile
