CAA results of 19th Annual Rice Capital Juried Art Competition

Judges Steve Breaux, UL Art Professor from Lafayette and Gwen Richard, Community Development Coordinator with the Acadiana Arts Council were the judges for the Crowley Art Association’s 19th Annual Rice Capital Juried Art Competition. The judging was held on Friday, April 4 at The CAA Gallery, 222 N. Parkerson Ave. in Crowley.

Garnering First Place in Landscapes/Seascapes was Robert Baxter, Crowley, for his painting “Paths of the Smokies.” Second went to Mit DeSpain, Scott, for “Seen Better Days.” Third was given to Dale Pousson, Egan for his “Red Barn.” Honorable Mention went to Bill Henderson, Crowley, for “Grits Mill,” Gwen Voorhies, New Iberia for “Sunset at Devil’s Pond,” and Larry Kibodeaux, Rayne for “Trinity Episcopal.”

In the Portraits/Figures category First Place went to Osereime Aimua of Rayne for his painting “Battle Cry.” Second went to Larry Kibodeaux, Rayne, for “All he Needs in a good Cajun Woman,” and Third went to Loretta Schultz for “Flower Child.” Honorable mention went to Ruth Marie Wright of Rayne for “Voo Doo Blues,” Jarvis Hebert, Lafayette for “La Femme Gentile” and Nancy Istre, Crowley for “The Loewer Legacy.”

In Still Life/Florals Shirley Griffin received First Place for her painting “Lilies, lilies, lilies.” Second went to Darnelle Delcambre, New Iberia with “Pier One Still Life.” Third went to Paula Gonzales, Estherwood, with her work “Orchid.” Honorable Mention in this category went to Mae Prather, Branch for “Presentation Bowl,” Nita Cagle, Carencro for “Rose of China,” and Jean Oubre, Crowley, for “Granny Smith Apple.”

Animals/Wildlife’s First Place was given to Dale Pousson for “Golden Retreiver,” Second went to Charlotte Lee, Rayne for “Making Display,” and Third went to Shann Comeaux, Scott, for “Horses in Motion.” Honorable Mention in this category went to Virginia Duson, Crowley, for “Running Wild,” and Dale Pousson for “Great Blue Heron.”

In the Photography category First Place went to Joe Pons, Lafayette, for “Isabella Helicon,” with Second Place being won by Pauline Belley, Lafayette, for “Sunset a Drift.” Third Place went to Emily Faulk, Saudi Arabia, for “Leo.” Honorable Mention was received by Carolyn Pons, Lafayette, for “Canadian Prairieland,” Joe Pons for “Glad Creek Mill,” and Crystal Morgan, Crowley, for “Angel Eyes.”

The Adult Student Category’s First Place went to Shirley Griffin for “Basket of Persimmons.” Second went to Jesse Reaux for “God, Family and Country,” with Third going to Shirley Griffin for “C’Est Bon Crabs.” Honorable Mention went to Virgie LeBlue, Crowley, for “TeePees,” Shirley Griffin for “Longue Vu Gardner,” and Virginia Duson, Crowley, for “Mexican Patio.”

In the All Other Category Jim Spell’s “Mosaic Antique Table” received First Place. Second Place went to Tammy Smith, Iota, for “Cypress Reflections,” and Third Place went to Delana Rouse, Morse, for “God’s Blessings.”

Honorable Mention went to Tammy Smith for “The Crimson Queen,” and Barbara Broussard, Youngsville, for “Untitled.”

In Needlecraft First Place went to Carlie Ames, Crowley, for “Amish Life.” Second was received by Carlie Ames, Crowley, for “Pineapple Christening Set,” and Third went to Jenny DeVille, Crowley, for “Red Bird Window.”

Honorable Mention went to Christine Gautreaux, Lafayette, for “Christening Gown and Cap.”

In the High School Category Emily Barbier, Iota, placed First with her “Self-Portrait.” Second was won by Erica Soileau, Ville Platte, with “Ketchup,” and Third was won by Carolyn Croughan, Crowley, for “Childhood Emotions,” Honorable Mention was won by Erica Soileau, Ville Platte, for “Cadillac,” Asher Reaux, Scott, for “The Crossing,” and Daniel Reaux, Scott, for “The Old Depot.”

Middle School Category honors went to Jordan Guillotte, Crowley, for “Mallard,” Second went to Zaner Cluse, Branch, for “Ruby,” and Third went to Jordon Guillotte, Crowley, for “Eagle.” Honorable Mention went to Jordan Guillotte, Crowley, for “Sail Boat,” Zaner Cluse, Branch, for “Susie,” and Amber Wilson, Crowley, for “Untitled.”

In the Children’s Category First Place went to Chloe Von Sibley, Crowley, for “Fairy,” Reid DeJean, Church Point, Second for “Red Haired Dolls,” and Third Place went to Chloe Von Sibley, Crowley, for “Indian Girl.” Honorable Mention went to Reid DeJean, Church Point, for “Mechanical Things.”

Best of Show in Fine Arts went to Dale Pousson for “Golden Retreiver.” Best of Show in Other Media went to Emily Barbier for “Self-Portrait.” Awards and ribbons will be given to the artists at a reception in their honor on Friday, April 25 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. in The Gallery, 222 N. Parkerson Ave. in Crowley. The Crowley Art Association would like to thank Mr. Kenny Privat, trustee for the Florence Mouboules Charitable Trust and Jude Sittig, Regional Administrator, Southwind Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Summerwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their generous donations to this event.
