SM edges Teurlings, Cecilia tops Westgate

The St. Martinville Tigers managed to remain in the hunt of the District 5-4A basketball campaign by shaking off an early week loss to St. Thomas More with a 54-51 win over Teurlings Catholic this past Friday.

The Tigers (9-12, 2-1) had suffered a 68-65 overtime loss to the Cougars on Jan. 14, despite a 23-point effort by Bradley Savoy.

Friday’s game against Teurlings was almost as close, with the difference coming at the free throw line. The ’Ville hit a perfect 6-for-6 while the Rebels managed only 3-for-7, accounting for SM’s 3-point victory margin.

Savoy again paced the Tiger attack, dropping in 17 points, including five treys.

Cecilia also managed to shake off an early week 60-48 loss to Northside with a high-scoring 88-85 shootout victory over Westgate on Friday, leaving the ’Dogs with an 8-12, 1-3 record.

Meanwhile, it was a rough week for the 8-11, 0-4 Breaux Bridge Tigers, who dropped games to Westgate 59-57) and St. Thomas More (78-50).
