Verna Mae Dupuis Pierce

Breaux Bridge – A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at St. Bernard Catholic Church for Verna Mae Dupuis Pierce, 86, who passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2014.
Visiting hours were observed at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday and continued at 7 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. A rosary was recited by Wildie Roberts at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Rev. David Broussard officiated at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures were read by Shadelle Guidry Huval and Brittney Guidry. Gift Bearers were Zoye Angelle, Miguel Angelle, Madden Degeyter and Destinee Green. Music was provided by Patrick Menard accompanied by Beth Hebert, organist.
Interment followed at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge.
Verna was retired from the State of Louisiana – Office of Food Stamp and Welfare division. She was affectionately known as “Granny” to her family and enjoyed camping, crocheting and reading books. “Granny” loved visiting with family and friends and especially loved telling stories to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
She is survived by two daughters, Becky Devillier and Tina Angelle and husband Ralph; seven grandchildren, Tonya D. Thibodeaux and husband Scotty, Naomi D. Degeyter and husband Sandy, Zach Angelle, Elliot Angelle and fiancée Bailey, Hailey Angelle, Zoye Angelle and Miquel Angelle; and seven great-grandchildren, Destinee Green, Chancley Angelle, Pierce Angelle, Alek Thibodeaux, Aidan Thibodeaux, Brilan Degeyter and Madden Degeyter.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Pierce; her parents, Alexson and Marie Guidry Dupuis; her son-in-law, Howard Devillier; two sisters, Pearl Latiolais and Agatha Guidry; and four brothers, Adolph, Adam, Pat and Emery Dupuis.
Pallbearers were Zach Angelle, Elliot Angelle, Alek Thibodeaux, Aidan Thibodeaux, Brilan Degeyter and Shane Guidry.
Verna’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff of St. Martin Hospital, Doctors, Nurses and C.N.A.’s, as well as Hospice Compassus, for the compassionate care and attention given to her during her time of need.
Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge was in charge of arrangements.
