Mary Landry Maraist

St. Martinville – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in for Mary Landry Maraist, 91, who passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at Cornerstone Village South.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday and continue on Wednesday at 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
Msgr. Keith Derouen will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Reading the scriptures for the service will be her nephews, Raymond Degravelle and Rusty Larriviere. Gift Bearers will be Jaylen Maraist, Alexa Maraist, Jackson Lightfoot and Kennedy Lightfoot.
Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Mrs. Maraist was an active parishioner for nearly 70 years of St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church and was a longtime member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the Perpetual Chapel, and Martha’s Guild.
She was a retired teacher of the St. Martin Parish School System where she taught Elementary and Special Education for 26 years. Her greatest pride and joy was her very large family, whom she cherished dearly.
She is survived by her sons, Johnny (Margaret) Maraist, Russell Maraist, Douglas (Linda) Maraist and Leonard (Teri) Maraist; her daughters, Elizabeth “Betty” (Pat) Byrd, Jeaninne (John) Dugas, Mary Catherine (Robert) Verret and Theresa (Dean) Richard; sisters, Katherine (Leonard) Cole and Johnnie Viguerie; 21 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Lloyd Maraist; father, John Clovis Landry; mother, Lily Montz Landry; and infant sister, Margaret Larriviere; and brothers-in-law, Bobby Viguerie and Wilton Larriviere.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Greg Byrd, Ryan Verret, Seth Richard, John Dugas Jr., Craig Dugas and Chris Dugas.
Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons, Taylor Maraist, Aaron Beal, Michael Maraist, James Maraist and Monty Richard.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street., Ste. 200, Lafayette, LA 70503.
The family would like to thank her loving caregivers, sitters and the medical staffs of Lafayette General Medical Center, Cornerstone Village South and Hospice of Acadiana.
