Leona Trosclair David

St. Martinville – A Mass of Christian Burial was conducted for Mrs. Dudley David Sr., the former Leona Trosclair, 84, at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 27, 2015, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church with Fr. Ed Degeyter officiating. Debbie Ayala and Allison David served as lectors and Mandy Boudreaux and Carly Chevalon served as gift bearers.
Interment followed in St. Michael’s Mausoleum.
Visitation was held from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Sunday with a Rosary at 7 p.m. The funeral home reopened at 8 a.m. on Monday.
A native and resident of St. Martinville, Mrs. David passed away at 5:27 p.m. on, Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at St. Martin Hospital in Breaux Bridge.
Mrs. David was a 1948 graduate of St. Martinville Senior High. She belonged to St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church, Beta Rho Sorority, Garden Club and the Attakapas Historical Association.
Mrs. David was employed by Buteau, Doumit Motors, then J.P. Thibodeaux Oldsmobile, Cadillac from July 1, 1969, until her retirement on June 30, 2008.
Leona was an avid genealogy researcher and in 1967, with Jane Guillory Buillard, co-authored the annotated 1774 Census of the Attakapas Post, in Winston DeVille’s Marriage Contracts of the Attakapas Post, 1760-1803. She held office in the Attakapas Historical Association and contributed to the genealogy of Michel Cormier, her maternal ancestor, published in the Attakapas Gazette of October. She was pleased with the fact that her grandson will carry on the love of tracing his ancestors.
She and her husband Dudley enjoyed camping and once belonged to the Cruisin’ Cajun’s and C’est La Vie Campers. They also enjoyed going to the casino, but her greatest enjoyment was family gatherings which included her favorite foods and taking family pictures which included her very good friend Mrs. Betty Voorhies.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Dudley David Sr.; two sons, Dudley David Jr. and wife Rena and Bill David and wife Debbie, all of St. Martinville; one daughter, Toni D. Simoneaud and husband Roy of New Iberia; seven grandchildren, David Simoneaud, Carly S. Chevalon, Mandy S. Boudreaux and husband Nick, Steven David and wife Melinda, Allison David and fiancé Seth Courville, Jeremy Riegger and Jeff Haggins; five great-grandchildren, Tanner Chevalon, Sawyer Chevalon, Soniah Rodrigue, McKayla Rodrigue and LeAnna Simoneaud.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Angelle Cormier Trosclair.
Pallbearers were Dudley David Jr., Bill David, Steven David, Roy Simoneaud, Jeremy Riegger, David Simoneaud, Craig Landry and George Resweber.
