Former SLU president
HAMMOND – Services will be Saturday for former Southeastern Louisiana University president J. Larry Crain. He died Feb. 1 at age 79.
He was president from 1980 until 1986 and during his term made the difficult decision to drop the football program to bolster the university academic budget. He was also former commissioner of higher education and former secretary of Culture, Recreation and Tourism.
Survivors include his wife Jean, two sons and a daughter.

Physician
MANSURA – Services for long-time family physician Dr. Richard Ranheim will be Friday. He died Jan. 28 at age 78.
He practiced as a general and family practitioner here for 40 years.
Survivors include three children.
Arrangements are by Escude.
