Breaux Bridge – A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 3, 2017, at St. Bernard Catholic Church for Robert Les Domingues Sr., 81, who passed away on Friday, June 30, 2017.
Visiting hours were observed at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Sunday and continued on Monday at 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. A rosary was prayed by Clifford Hebert at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Rev. Paul B. Patin, S.J., officiated at the Funeral Mass. The readers were Leah David and Jena Thompson. The gift bearers were Suzanne Bayard and Tonya Carriere.
Entombment followed at St. Bernard Mausoleum - No. 1 in Breaux Bridge.
Robert was a native and lifelong resident of Breaux Bridge. A 1954 graduate of Cathedral High School, Robert later enlisted in the Louisiana Army National Guard, where he served as a medic sergeant.
Robert was the owner of Robert’s Jewelry and Maison de Fleurs in Breaux Bridge, working alongside his wife, Neddie, for many years until his retirement. He served as past president of the Louisiana Jewelers Association and was a member of Jewelers of America, and Louisiana Wholesale Florists.
He was a parishioner of St. Bernard Catholic Church, a member of the St. Bernard Altar Society, and the Breaux Bridge Knights of Columbus Council No. 2398. Robert made Cursillo #13 and continued to be a leader in the Cursillo movement for many years to follow.
Robert was actively involved in his hometown community throughout his life, serving as a volunteer firefighter with the Breaux Bridge Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. He also volunteered his time with the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival Association for many years, serving as past president and years later was bestowed the honor of being crowned the 1996 Crawfish King. He was also inducted into the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival Association’s Hall of Fame in 2011.
Robert was a past member of Pelbay Hunting Club. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and cooking with family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Isabelle “Neddie” Patin Domingues; his sons, Robert “Robby” Domingues Jr., Paul Domingues and wife Michelle, George Domingues and John Domingues and his fiancée Heidi, all of Breaux Bridge; his daughters, Margaret Duhon and husband Charlie of Arnaudville, and Susan Badon and husband Tommy of Lafayette; his sister, Diane Townsend of Breaux Bridge; 12 grandchildren, Christopher Duhon, Shane Duhon, Timothy Duhon, Colin Domingues, Leah David, Jena Thompson, Blaise Badon, Bryce Badon, Beau Badon, Andrew Domingues, Austin Domingues and Isabelle Domingues; and three great-grandchildren, Shane Michael Duhon, Owen Duhon and Anna David.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Danton Domingues and Ethel Champagne Domingues.
Honored to serve as his pallbearers are his grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be longtime friends, Clifford Hebert, Johnny Melancon, Ray Pellerin, Edward Barron and Ted Beaullieu.
Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge was in charge of arrangements.
