Maurice Berard

Breaux Bridge – A Funeral Service was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at St. Bernard Catholic Church’s Borel Center for Maurice Berard, 92, who passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2016, at St. Agnes Healthcare & Rehab Center.
Visiting hours were observed at the funeral home from 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
A rosary was prayed at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Deacon Marcel “Butch” Hebert officiated at the Funeral Service. Reader was Tessa Berard. Gift bearers were Kassi Berard and Trisha Reed.
Entombment followed at St. Bernard Mausoleum - No. 2 in Breaux Bridge.
Mr. Berard was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and cutting grass. During his free time, he liked spending time on the water crawfishing, watching Wheel of Fortune, and singing and listening to music. His most cherished moments were spending time with the people he loved most, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren.
He is survived by his sons, Douglas Berard and wife Della, Jeff Berard and wife Laura, Dane Berard and wife Mary, all of Breaux Bridge, and Phillip Berard and wife Carol “Chicken,” and Kenneth “Pete” Berard and wife Tracey both of Parks; daughters, Catherine Poche and husband Roy of St. Martinville, Molly Berard of Breaux Bridge, Arlene Matte and husband Roland of St. Martinville, and Tessa Berard of Breaux Bridge; special granddaughter he raised, Amber Robin and spouse Kyle of Breaux Bridge; brother, Chester Berard and wife Laida of Cecilia; 15 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and six great-great0grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Berard; mother, Bella Berard; brothers, William Berard, Bennett Berard, Dewey Berard and George Berard; and two sisters, Theresa Champagne and Pauline Savoy.
Pallbearers were Cory LeBlanc, Chris Poche, Kale “Blue” Berard, Brady Berard, Kutter Berard and Judd Prioux.
Honorary pallbearers were his children, Glenn Thibodeaux, Roy Poche, Roland Matte, Kyle Robin and Gasper Leger.
Mr. Berard’s family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of St. Agnes Nursing Home, Drs. Warren and Ben Degatur, and the staff of St. Martin Hospital, for the wonderful care given to him during his time of need.
Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge was in charge of arrangements.
