Lynton Paul Cormier
Lafayette – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, September 22, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church for Lynton Paul Cormier, 90, who passed away Sunday, September 18, 2016, at his residence in Lafayette.
Visitation will be observed on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, from 2 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and resumes Thursday, September 22, 2016, at 8 a.m. until the time of services, at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette.
A rosary will be recited Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at 7 p.m. at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette.
Lectors will be his god-children, Nancy Camel and Sally LeBlanc. Gift bearers are Eryn L. McBride, Courtney Bernard, Claire Lavergne, Paige Lavergne and Shelley Laviolette. Vocalist Jodi Bollich will be singing Amazing Grace, Be Not Afraid, Here I am Lord, How Great Thou Art and On Eagle’s Wings.
Interment will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette.
Reverend Father Howard J. Blessing, Pastor of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lafayette, will officiate. Con-celebrant will be Reverend Floyd J. Calais, retired.
Paul was born February 6, 1926, in Breaux Bridge and was a long-time resident of Acadiana. Paul worked as the assistant manager for Heymann’s Fabric Department for 40 years. After retirement, he continued working for 20 years at Louisiana Safety Systems. He was a parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lafayette, where he also served as an usher.
Paul was active in his community and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed bird watching and woodworking. A Thursday night never passed without cooking for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Most of all, Paul loved spending time with his family and friends.
Paul is survived by two daughters, Linda Cormier Lavergne of Arnaudville and Paula Cormier Bernard and her husband Brooks of Lafayette; two sisters, Evelyn Landry Martin and Lorraine Landry Castille, both of Breaux Bridge; six grandchildren, Brady Laviolette and his wife, Shelley, Eryn L. McBride and her husband, Mitchell, Courtney Bernard, Hunter Bernard, Claire Lavergne and Paige Lavergne; two great-grandchildren, Chloe Trahan and Konner McBride and numerous dear nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Aline Melancon Cormier; his parents, Camille Cormier and Blanche Picard Landry; his daughter, Carolyn Laviolette Hays; his son, Glenn Laviolette; and three brothers, John Gauthier, George Cormier and Robert “Bobby” Landry.
Pallbearers will be Brooks Bernard, Hunter Bernard, Brady Laviolette, Mitchell McBride, Tony Conrad and Clayton Castille.
Honorary Bearers are Isidore Aucoin, Robert Mire, John “Pitt” Broussard and Wayne Fontenot.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Paul’s name to Bridgeway Hospice or Holy Cross St. Vincent de Paul.
The family wishes to thank Bridgeway Hospice, his nurses, Lea and Lacey and his aide, Nia for the compassionate care given to Paul and his family.
