Joseph Lormand
Arnaudville – Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2016, at a 2 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Francis Regis Catholic Church for Joseph Lormand, 94, who passed away Monday, August 15, 2016, at 9:20 p.m. at Maison Teche Nursing Home in Jeanerette.
Interment will be in St. Francis Regis Cemetery in Arnaudville. The Rev. Keenan Brown, pastor of St. Francis Regis Catholic Church, will officiate at the services.
Mr. Lormand was a native and lifelong resident of Arnaudville. At the age of 17 he worked at CC Camp in Robilene, where he planted pine trees making $1 a day. He was employed as a riverboat captain on the Mississippi River and retired from Chautin Boat Industries. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II from 1942-1945. Two weeks after getting married in 1942, Joseph was stationed in Panama for 28 months and the Philippines for six months. In 1946, he was employed in Guam.
He was a parishioner of St. Francis Regis Catholic Church in Arnaudville. Joseph enjoyed gardening, woodworking, camping and he loved to cook. He loved making and purchasing gifts for his family from TV.
Survivors include two sons, Nolan Lormand and wife Lydia of Arnaudville, and Joseph “Joey” Lormand of Arnaudville; three daughters, Ina L. Courville and husband Joe of Lafayette, Neva L. Stelly and former husband Ronald of Arnaudville, and Doris Leblanc and husband Michael of Jeanerette; 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; three brothers, Batmost Lormand and wife Geraldine of Arnaudville, Adrien Lormand and wife Edwina of Arnaudville, and Burton Lormand and wife Theresa of Cecilia; and three sisters, Lovena Marks of Cecilia, Lou Olivier and husband Remi of Arnaudville, and Helen Broussard and husband Gary of Cecilia.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Lorena “Sis” Marks Lormand; his parents, Eustache Lormand Sr. and the former Helen Taylor; one son, Wivis Jules “Gol-d” Lormand; two grandchildren, Ross Leblanc and Shelly L. Leblanc; one great-grandchild, Austin Courville; two brothers, Eustache Lormand Jr. and Bruno Lormand; and two sisters, Adrienne Lalonde and Phyllis Trahan.
A rosary will be prayed at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 9 a.m. until time of service Thursday.
Pallbearers will be Nolan Lormand, Joey Lormand, Justin Stelly, Ben Stelly, Cole Lormand and Tony Courville.
