St. Martin sheriff forum this Thursday, Aug. 13
Candidates seeking the office of St. Martin Parish sheriff will take center stage at the first local public forum of the 2015 election year.
The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. this Thursday, Aug. 13, at Breaux Bridge City Hall.
The election is Oct. 24.
The forum is free but seating is limited. It’s best to arrive early.
Sponsored by the Breaux Bridge Area Chamber of Commerce, this is an open forum for candidates to introduce themselves, discuss their platforms, and answer questions submitted by the public.
The moderator will be Dr. G. Pearson Cross, interim associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts and associate professor of Political Science at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
“We’re receiving some great feedback and take much pride in hosting an event that allows our residents an upfront and personal introduction to the candidates as well as open forum to discuss the issues of concern,” said Rick Pearson, Chamber president.
Qualifying for the position is not until Sept. 8-10, but four persons have already announced their candidacy and all have been invited to participate. Those candidates are, in alphabetical order, Corey Broussard, Albert “Buz” LeBlanc, Brian Theriot and Ronny Theriot.
AOC (Acadiana Open Channel) will be on-site for Thursday night’s forum and will be broadcasting the event for those that are unable to attend.
Questions or comments can be emailed to sheriffsforum@cox.net or call the Breaux Bridge Area Chamber of Commerce at (337) 332-5406.
