Village’s water system to get a good flushing

Karl Jeter

Following a single test in April, in which water tested below standards, the village is instituting a more aggressive program of line flushing.
Mayor Kevin Kately, speaking at the June 9 village Village Council meeting, said that increased flushing was one of the steps recommended by an independent consultant.
The test in April revealed an elevated bacteria count, thought to be the result of contamination due to the extreme rainfall. Subsequent tests showed a return to normal levels. Kately said that the village would probably begin a weekly flushing program to insure good water quality for Parks water system customers.
In other business, Kately said that the village was looking for solutions to its limited ability to haul large amounts of debris. After recent storm events the village relied on help from St. Martin Parish Government to provide a dump truck to clear away broken trees and other trash. He thanked Parish President Guy Cormier for a prompt response to his request for help.
Kately also thanked the village council for their cooperative and productive work. He reported that village affairs are generally running very smoothly.
