WARNING: SOMEONE POSING AS A SHERIFF'S DEPUTY OVER THE PHONE

The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office Wednesday received a report of a male subject with a foreign accent posing as an SMSO deputy who called a resident of the parish seeking personal information regarding a member of their household. When the caller declined to give the information, the caller became irate.
SMSO wants the public to be aware that this was not a St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy. Be extremely cautious of anyone who is asking for money or personal information such as your credit card number, social security information, date of birth, etc. Never give this information to out to anyone.
Please do not fall victim to this latest attempt to scam the general public.
