Sheriffs’ scholarship program now taking student applications

Applications to the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Scholarship Program must be submitted to Maj. Ginny Higgins at the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office no later than Wednesday, April 1.
The annual program provides assistance to worthy St. Martin Parish students in furthering their education and training with resources made available through the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Honorary Membership Program.
One $500 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating high school senior from St. Martin Parish.
There are no restrictions on the purpose for which the scholarship is spent. The scholarship is not a loan and will be awarded as a gift to defray the rising cost of tuition and related expenses in higher education.
The only limitations are:
•Applicants must be permanent residents of Louisiana;
•Scholarships must be utilized in higher education within the State of Louisiana;
•Students must be enrolled as full-time, undergraduate students;
•Applicants must be eligible for admission to the school they indicate on their application.
The award will only be paid for attendance at institutions of higher learning within the State of Louisiana.
The winner will be announced in May.
Applications are available through school counselors, at the Public Safety Complex at 4870 N. Main Hwy, (between Breaux Bridge and Parks) and at the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office, 400 St. Martin Street, in St. Martinville.
