School Board to choose officers Wednesday

Henri C. Bienvenu

Members of the St. Martin School Board will begin the new year by electing officers to serve during 2015.
The board will hold its first meeting of the year at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Administrative Office, 625 Corporate Boulevard.
Members will also be sworn into office to begin new four-year terms, although there will be only one new face among the 10 representatives.
Former superintendent Burton Dupuis will take his seat as District 6 representative, replacing Robert Hollier, who chose not to seek re-election after serving one four-year term.
Russel Foti of District 5 has been president for the past year with Wanda Babin of District 2 serving as vice president.
Board policy does not prohibit members from serving more than one term as an officer, but the custom in recent years has been to rotate the offices among the members.
The board’s finance committee is set to meet at 4:30 p.m. to consider the lease/purchase of new buses and the employment of the firm of Kolder, Champagne, Slaven & Co. to audit salaries/job descriptions.
In addition to a number of routine items, today’s agenda includes:
•Receive audit report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2014.
•Acknowledge award of a contract for new classrooms at Cecilia High School.
•Executive (secret) session to hear five expulsion appeals.
•Request of board members to a) consider/approve purchasing property next to Teche Elementary School (Richard Potier).
•Consider allowing students to wear coats/jackets in the schools (Mark Hebert).
