Hazel Melancon Elkins

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2014, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church for Hazel Melancon Elkins, 91, who passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at St. Agnes Healthcare & Rehab Center.
Visiting hours were observed from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Thursday, and continued on Friday at 7 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Pellerin Funeral Home in Henderson. A rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Rev. Garrett McIntyre officiated at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures were read by Kali Rebert and Wanda Olivier. Gift Bearers were Holly Rebert and Lauren Theriot.
Interment followed at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge.
Hazel enjoyed shopping at the local thrift-shops and going to the casino. She loved spending time visiting with her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Jeanette Courville and her husband Rogers of Henderson; four grandchildren, Dennis Theriot, Emilean Courville, Wanda Olivier, and Dupie Theriot Jr.; 11 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Octave Frugé Melancon; her first husband, Calvert Guidry; second husband, Bernice Elkins; four sisters, Bernice Melancon, Birday Ortiz, Lovenia Brasseaux and Bursay Case; two brothers, Wilbert and Buck Melancon; and two grandchildren, Terry Paul Theriot and Debbie Rebert.
Pallbearers were Dupie Theriot Jr., Ray Rebert, Dennis Theriot, Ronnie Courville, Hunter Olivier and Keith Courvelle.
Honorary pallbearer was Rogers Courville.
Pellerin Funeral Home of Henderson was in charge of arrangements.
