Ernest D. ‘Sonny’ Friedman Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Ernest David “Sonny” Friedman Jr., 84, who passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2014.
Visiting hours were observed from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, and continued on Thursday at 8 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. at Pellerin Funeral Home in Cecilia. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
Fr. Michael Delcambre officiated at the Funeral
Mass. Scriptures were read by Cabrina Benoit. Gift Bearers were Christine Friedman and Lydia Friedman.
Entombment followed at St. Joseph Cemetery in Cecilia.
Mr. Friedman was a veteran of the Korean War, honorably serving his country in the United States Army from April 18, 1951, until his honorable discharge on April 21, 1953. He was a life-member and was a past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2103 and the American Legion Post 69 in Lafayette.
He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cecilia, where he served as an Usher. He was actively involved with the A.R.C. of St. Martin, serving as a board member and secretary for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Joycelyn Melancon Friedman of Breaux Bridge; two sons, Tucker Jude Friedman of Henderson and Ernest David Friedman III of Breaux Bridge; three daughters, Shelly Benoit and husband Leonard of Cecilia, Myra Tuttle and husband David of Cecilia, and Melinda Guidry and husband Terry of Breaux Bridge; one brother, Charles Friedman and wife Pam; one sister, Irene Picard and husband Lawrence of Breaux Bridge; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren, and three step great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest David Friedman Sr. and Lydia Guidry Friedman; and his brother, William Friedman.
Pallbearers were Tucker Friedman, David Tuttle, Leonard Benoit, Nick Friedman, Cameron Angelle and Terry Guidry.
Pellerin Funeral Home of Cecilia was in charge of arrangements.
