St. Martin Hospital hosts cook-off for United Way
St. Martin Hospital held its fourth annual gumbo cook-off Saturday, Oct. 11, raising donations for United Way of Acadiana’s charitable efforts in St. Martin Parish.
Beautiful weather brought a record number of people to the event held on the hospital grounds. Cooking teams, formed by hospital staff members and residents, competed in four different categories.
A $5 admission, along with proceeds from a bake sale and other donations, went towards raising in excess of $7,300. Donations were highlighted by a $2,500 gift given by Nursing Specialties, Inc. (NSI), a local home health agency. NSI was also a participant in the cook-off, winning the People’s Choice Award with their chicken and sausage gumbo.
Entertainment was provided by The LeBlanc Family Band, The Thibodeaux Family Band and Jane Labbie and Friends.
St. Martin Hospital CEO Katie Hebert expressed her gratitude, saying, “I would like to thank the people of St. Martin Parish for their participation and donations, particularly to Nursing Specialties, making our event such a success.”
