Breaux Bridge Art Walk on Saturday, Sept. 20
The raison d’être for the Teche Fest Art Walk and Cajun Paddle is the proposed Teche Center for the Arts in the old Dan Theater on Bridge Street in downtown Breaux Bridge.
The theater, renovated under the guidance of local architect Glenn Angelle, will serve as the home of the region’s rich culture, focusing on teaching children arts, music and Cajun French.
To raise funds for this endeavor, organizers will sell bricks and mosaics with family names, T-shirts, and of course take donations.
The Art Walk, featuring local artist Kelly Guidry, will span the downtown area, under tents and awnings and in stores. The hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
In recognition of the beauty and cultural importance of Bayou Teche, Bayou Teche Experience and the TECHE Project is offering a Cajun Paddle, a floating jam session aboard a floating stage trailed by canoes, kayaks and pirogues from Poche Bridge to Parc des Ponts de Pont Breaux. The two-hour paddle party kicks off from Poche Bridge around 8 a.m. For reservations, go to info@bayoutecheexperience.
Of course there will be food and music – as there is on any given Saturday in Breaux Bridge, starting with the world-famous Zydeco Breakfast at Café des Amis 8:30-11 a.m. and followed by the Cajun Jam at Joie de Vivre Café 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Then the special event takes over on the Teche Fest stage with Brazos Huval Students 2-2:30 p.m., Sweet Cecilia 3:45-5 p.m., and Bonsoir Catin 5:15-6:30 p.m.
