Bomb threat on U.S. 90 leads to arrest of Parks man
Shortly before 7 p.m. Monday, July 14, the St. Martin Sheriff’s Office (SMSO) was notified of suspicious circumstances at a truck stop on U.S. Highway 90.
When a deputy arrived, man who called in the complaint, Joseph Oquinn, 55, of Parks, told the lawman that he had placed a bomb in the truck stop.
Oquinn, who was described as extremely intoxicated, allegedly became uncooperative and refused to give any identifying information to the deputies.
The truck stop was evacuated and searched. A duffel bag that was believed to belong to the suspect was found and the UL Lafayette campus police responded with their bomb dog. No bomb was detected and the business was reopened.
Oquinn was arrested and booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on suspicion of making terrorizing statements, disturbing the peace by intoxication, battery on a police officer, resisting a police officer, and public intimidation.
