Authorities say nobody else shot in July 1 event
A man found shot to death in a vehicle in the Ledoux area of town has been identified as Kevon Bobb, 21, of New Iberia.
Despite persistent rumors to the contrary, authorities say Bobb was the only victim in the bizarre incident, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, July 1.
The St. Martin Sheriff’s Office is taking the lead on the investigation at the request of St. Martinville’s new police chief, Calder “Pop” Hebert.
SMSO reported that city police officers responded to 911 calls describing gunshots being fired on Gov. Mouton Street in the southern St. Martinville neighborhood. Arriving upon the scene, the officers witnessed a vehicle driving away. After a brief pursuit, the vehicle came to an abrupt stop and two black men fled on foot.
The officers discovered Bobb’s body on the back seat of the vehicle.
SMSO spokesperson Maj. Ginny Higgins said there is no truth to the rumor that another man was shot and wounded while fleeing the scene.
The investigation is ongoing and detectives are asking anyone with information on the incident to contact the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office at (337) 394-3071.
