Who are the local legends?

The clues are found at the African American Museum
A clue

In celebration of Black History Month, the African American Museum here will honor three local legends – and give the community the fun of guessing who they are.

“We have so much to be proud of here in St. Martinville,” said the museum’s curator, Danielle Fontenette. “There are many, many people in our community we hope to honor over the years.”

Participants are invited to come to the African American Museum free of charge up until Feb. 26 to look for clues and figure out who the legends are.

Awards given to those who choose the correct persons at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 28 at Notre Dame Catholic Church.

Hint: One of the honorees is no longer living.

Another hint: Did you know St. Martinville had the first black mayor in the nation?

The honorees who are living are unaware of being chosen and will find out through a mailed invitation to the event on Feb. 28.

Fontenette said she hopes that many residents of St. Martinville will come visit the museum and learn more about the black history of St. Martinville.
