St. Martin Parish construction slows

Overall new construction activity slowed just a bit across St. Martin Parish during the months of May and June according to building permits issued by both parish and municipal governments.
While residential activity remained fairly steady in the rural areas of the parish, staying at just above $15 million for the past two 2-month periods, commercial permits were down sharply.
During March-April Parish Government issued 11 commercial permits for construction valued at $4.2 million but the number dropped to four permits with a combined value of $1.1 million in May-June.
Boosting the May-June figure were a $650,000 office building for Anzalone Real Estate in rural Broussard and a $400,000 facility for Superior Services near Cade.
The new home starts in Breaux Bridge dropped from five in March-April to two in May-June with overall residential work slipping from $1 million to just over $600,000 for the same periods.
Only three commercial permits were issued in Breaux Bridge during May-June but the number included a $422,450 building for Heath King on Enterprise Parkway just off I-10.
St. Martinville continues to report only minimal activity in both the residential and commercial sectors.
