Sheriff Ronny Theriot wins fourth term

Some incumbents lose council seats

St. Martin Sheriff Ronny Theriot defeated three challengers to win a fourth term. He polled 57 percent of the vote. Corey Broussard got 3 percent, Albert “Buz” LeBlanc 32 percent and Brian P. Theriot 8 percent.
The parish’s incumbent clerk of court, Becky Patin, also won handily against opponent Espinola Alexander-Quinn, 80-20 percent.
Replacing the retiring Assessor Lawrence Patin is his chief deputy Todd Dugas, who received 72 percent of the vote to Dolores L. Bourda's 28 percent.
Here are the results of the Parish Council races on the ballot:
•District 1 – Pete Delcambre 48 percent, Byron Fuselier the winner with 52 percent;
•District 2 – Jess E. “Poppa” Crosier 19 percent and incumbent Lisa Nelson 81 percent;
•District 5 – incumbent Clay Courville loses to Chris Tauzin 47-53 percent;
•District 7 – Vincent Alexander 30 percent and Albert “Da Da” Menard 44 percent in a runoff, Sunnyboy Joseph out with 27 percent;
•District 8 – Dean LeBlanc with 55 percent defeats incumbent Meko Robin, 45 percent;
•District 9 – Kim J. Angelle with 31 percent in a runoff with Daniel Richard Jr., 44 percent, and Cheryl Knott out with 25 percent'\;
Incumbents in the other four districts were elected automatically when they did not draw opponents.
On the Breaux Bridge Board of Aldermen (City Council), District C incumbent Alvin H. Jones with 39 percent was defeated by challenger Ernest “EJ” Lede, 61 percent. This is an out-of-phase election occasioned when the incumbent vacated the seat and Gov. Bobby Jindal appointed Jones pending a special election.
Of the overlapping state senate and representative districts in the parish, only two were on the ballot, again because there was no opposition in the others:
•State Senator, 24th District – Gerald Boudreaux wins with 61 percent, Ledricka Johnson Thierry 39 percent;
•State Representative 96th District – incumbent Terry C. Landry Sr. 84 percent and Raymond “Shoe-Do” Lewis 16 percent.
Other multi-parish district races affecting St. Martin are:
•BESE District 3 – incumbent Lottie P. Beebe with 39 percent loses to challenger Sandy LeBlanc Holloway, 61 percent;
•BESE District 8 – incumbent Carolyn Hill loses to opponent Jada Lewis 48-52 percent;
•16th Judicial District Judge ES 2, Div. D – Eddie Guidry in a runoff with Lewis Pitman with 36 percent piece and Nicholas “Nick” LaRocca out with 28 percent.
