Lot of local races on the ballot

In addition to the highly publicized gubnatorial and other races, most principal parish officials are up for reelection this Saturday.
St. Martin Sheriff Ronny Theriot, vying for his fourth term, faces opposition from three challengers, Corey Broussard, Albert “Buz” LeBlanc and Brian P. Theriot.
The parish’s incumbent clerk of court, Becky Patin, is opposed by Espinola Alexander-Quinn.
The retirement of Assessor Lawrence Patin leaves an open seat for which two of his deputies, Dolores L. Bourda and Todd Dugas are vying.
There are five Parish Council seats up for grabs. Incumbents in the other four districts were elected automatically when they did not draw opponents.
On the ballot are:
•District 1 – Pete Delcambre and Byron Fuselier;
•District 2 – Jess E. “Poppa” Crosier and incumbent Lisa Nelson;
•District 5 – incumbent Clay Courville and Chris Tauzin;
•District 7 – Vincent Alexander, Sunnyboy Joseph and Albert “Da Da” Menard;
•District 8 – Dean LeBlanc and incumbent Meko Robin;
•District 9 – Kim J. Angelle, Cheryl Knott and Daniel Richard Jr.
On the Breaux Bridge Board of Aldermen (City Council), incumbent Alvin H. Jones faces Ernest “EJ” Ledet in District C. This is an out-of-phase election occasioned when the incumbent vacated the seat and Gov. Bobby Jindal appointed Jones pending a special election.
Of the overlapping state senate and representative districts in the parish, only two are on the ballot, again because there was no opposition in the others. Vying for votes Saturday are:
•State Senator, 24th District – Gerald Boudreaux and Ledricka Johnson Thierry (the incumbent, Elbert Guillory, is running for lieutenant governor);
•State Representative 96th District – incumbent Terry C. Landry Sr. and Raymond “Shoe-Do” Lewis.
Other multi-parish district races affecting St. Martin are:
•BESE District 3 – incumbent Lottie P. Beebe and Sandy LeBlanc Holloway;
•BESE District 8 – incumbent Carolyn Hill and Jada Lewis;
•16th Judicial District Judge ES 2, Div. D – Eddie Guidry, Nicholas “Nick” LaRocca and Lewis Pitman (position open due to the death of the incumbent, James R. McClelland).
Please see Section C for a full list of candidates and proposed constitutional amendments on Saturday’s ballots.
