Help fight lupus with gumbo!

Benefit cook-off honors Mary Lynn Thibodeaux

Mawsie’s Gumbo Cook-off will be held in Parc des Ponts as a benefit for The Lupus Foundation of America Saturday, Nov. 21, 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
The event is inspired by the lupus-related death of Mary Lynn “Mawsie” Thibodeaux, a beloved community activist, in October.
The entry fee is $50. Winners will be awarded at the event.
Each team will be assigned a specific area to setup their cook area. Teams are encouraged to provide a cover, canopy or tent for their temporary kitchens.
Late registration ends at 8 a.m. Teams must be set up and ready to cook by 9 a.m.
Here are the rules:
•Gumbo must be prepared on site, the day of the cook-off and be ready to serve at noon. Judging will start at 12:30 p.m.
•Must prepare a minimum of eight gallons.
•Roux may be prepared ahead of time.
•Contestants are responsible for all ingredients and expenses of their gumbo. Contestants may acquire sponsors.
•Contestants are required to furnish their own stove and gas,    utensils and water.
•Gumbo can be any variety.
•Sponsors may advertise or decorate their table.
•Teams are responsible for keeping their respective areas clean during and after the event. Dumping of grease or leftovers and cleaning of pots will not be allowed.
