fire and water in arnaudville Saturday
Le Feu et l’Eau Rural Arts Celebration, featuring the talents of Louisiana artists, performers and cooks, will be held here Saturday, Dec. 5, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
An annual event sponsored by NuNu Arts and Culture Collective, Fire and Water showcases Louisiana’s French- Cajun heritage via demonstrations, workshops, literary and poetry readings, and music throughout this historic town.
George Marks, NuNu co-founder, is an artist of international renown who served as a Pied Piper for New Orleans artists displaced by Hurricane Katrina and turned a struggling farm town into a chic art colony.
Mavis Arnaud Frugé, the other co-founder of NuNu Art and Culture Collective, keeps the original French Acadian culture alive via the Jacques Arnaud French Studies Collective, hosting “French tables,” gatherings that encourage people to use the language in day-to-day conversations.
Marks developed Le Feu et l’Eau in December 2005 as a way for the newly resettled artists to display and sell their artwork.
Over the years the event has expanded to become more of a celebration featuring a multitude of artists, performers and cultural workers in a variety of disciplines and genres.
Originally based in the old NuNu’s at the junction of Bayous Teche and Fuselier, the event has moved to the old Singleton Lumber building, 1510 Bayou Courtableau Hwy.
