Breaux Bridge fire victim identified as Robert C. 'Robby' Knight

Memorial service at Martin & Castille in Lafayette Thursday

Neighbors of the family whose home burned off Bergeron Road here late Saturday have identified the man who died in the blaze as Robert C. “Robby” Knight, 36.

A woman and a child escaped without serious injury.

Official identification of the victim by authorities is pending the results of an autopsy, said St. Martin Parish Fire District Coordinator Brian Castille.

A memorial service for Knight will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, in Martin & Castille Funeral Home’s La Fleur de Lis Chapel in Lafayette.

According to the funeral home, Knight was born in El Paso, Texas, raised in Mississippi, and had been living in Louisiana. He was employed by the Nacher Corporation as a project manager.

Neighbors said Knight had lived in the Bergeron Road home about two years.

Castille said firefighters battled the blaze for roughly 1½ hours and remained on the scene until 5 a.m. Sunday to put out hot spots.

The state fire marshal said the fire started in the living area.

The woman, identified as Kylie Knott, and a child were treated and released at St. Martin Hospital.

Martin and Castille list survivors as two sons, Kade Austen Knight and “R.J.” Robert Joseph Adair Knight; his parents, Robert and Barbara Ramsey Knight; one sister, Amanda J. Knight; one brother, Christopher Herrera and his uncle, James Upchurch.
