Bond projects on school board agenda

Projects being funded by two recent bond issues are expected to occupy a major portion of today’s meeting of the St. Martin School Board.
Board members will meet at 5 p.m. today (Wednesday) for their monthly session. The board’s finance committee has also set a meeting for 4 p.m.
Committee members will review a presentation by Infinity Offshore Services LLC on additional maintenance and custodial services, consider the salary and lunch budgets, and review the school resource officer contract with the Sheriff’s Office.
In addition to a number of routine matters, today’s agenda includes:
•2013 bond program projects 1) Cecilia High – allow superintendent to accept the low proposal for athletic equipment if within the $75,000 budget; begin advertising for baseball and softball field lighting ($325,000 budgeted); accept proposal from Quality Court for track repairs in the amount of $31,400; 2) Breaux Bridge High – accept proposal from Quality Court for track repairs in the amount of $23,740; BBHS, SMJH and SMSH – obtain proposals for Test and Balance Services and allow superintendent to accept if quotes are within the $100,000 budget for HVAC work; 3) Breaux Bridge Jr. High – obtain proposals for library building AC replacement ($150,000 budget); 4) Catahoula Elementary – allow superintendent to award contracts for removal of pine trees and parking lot repairs ($120,000 budget), removal of storage building ($30,000 budget) and epoxy floors in cafeteria ($10,000 budget); 5) Stephensville Elementary – allow superintendent to award contracts for renovations to gym, kitchen floor, storage building loading pad ($50,000 budget); 6) acknowledge awarding of $12,000 contract to Bulliard Construction for BBJH sidewalk and $227,220 contract to Roofing Solutions for JCEP gym roof.
•2016 bond program projects 1) BBJH – allow superintendent to award contract for crosswalk project ($150,000 budget).
•Executive (secret) session to consider action regarding Thomas vs School Board suit.
•At the request of board members: 1) discuss hiring/transfer policies (Jimmy Blanchard); 2) discuss the appraisal and purchase of the Pellerin Building (Blanchard); 3) discuss board member protocol (Blanchard); 4) discuss maintaining the school board office in St. Martinville (Steve Fuselier); 5) consider the addition of one coaching stipend at each high school and junior high school (Floyd Knott and Richard Potier).
•Consider restructuring the assignment of the assistant principal position at Parks Primary to three days per week at PP and two days per week at the Early Learning Center, and the assistant principal position at Parks Middle to three days per week at PM and two days per week at Catahoula Elementary.
•Consider a staggered schedule for the custodial staff at schools and give superintendent the authority to put any school with deficiencies on a flexible schedule.
•Consider request of waiver of sales tax penalties for W-1 LLC.
