Body found in the Atchafalaya
A body discovered in the Atchafalaya River Tuesday morning is believed to be that of a fisherman reported missing over the weekend.
On Sunday, a tugboat crew found an unmanned boat in the river and allerted the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
According to LDWF, William Carey Seal, 56, of Butte La Rose, was dropped off at the public boat landing in Butte La Rose Saturday morning by one of his friends.
Seal, who had said he was going fishing, failed to return t hat evening. He was reportedly spotted some two miles upstream of the Butte La Rose landing.
His unattended boat was found about two miles below the landing.
The body was found by a crewboat skipper just before 8 a.m. No word at this time exactly where the body was found.
The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office assisted in the search.
