On Thursday, May 28, 2015, at approximately 6 p.m., deputies with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a camp burglary on Bayou Natchez in Belle River. Upon arrival the camp owner reported a firearm was missing from the residence. Shortly afterwards, a second call came in regarding another possible break-in at another camp on Bayou Natchez about a mile away.
An hour before the burglaries were reported, a camp on Bayou Natchez burned to the ground and the cause of the fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal.
A joint investigation by the Assumption and St. Martin parish sheriff’s offices resulted in the arrests by Assumption Parish deputies of Brett Hebert, 18, 100 block of Agnes St., Pierre Part, and a 13-year-old subject, also from Pierre Part. The pair were booked into the Assumption Parish Correctional Center and Hebert was later transferred to the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center this morning on charges of two counts of simple burglary, and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.
