BBPD narcotics officer on duty since January

Breaux Bridge Police Chief P.J. Hebert announced that, effective January of this year, he has assigned a veteran officer of the department to full time narcotics investigations.

That move has paid off, with over 25 drug arrests to date, he said.

Hebert said that the last time the city police force had a dedicated narcotics officer was 12 years ago.

Citing the success of an area-wide, multi-agency task force initiative named “A New Resolution,” which operated in mid-January of this year, Hebert said that of the 15 drug arrests made in St. Martin parish, seven were made by his department.

Hebert, who has over 15 years of narcotics law enforcement experience, with a number of police agencies throughout Acadiana, says that this appointment will make his department less reliant on other area narcotics units and, hence, will enhance BBPD’s response time to drug activity reports and intelligence.

Hebert noted that his appointee has an extensive background in narcotics investigations and is very familiar with the local drug trade.

Citing his commitment to making Breaux Bridge a good and safe community, Hebert said that by this appointment, he hopes to make it even better.
