Erin Blanchard of Cecilia was crowned Queen of the St Martin Parish Cattleman’s Association for 2016. After a whirlwind few days of presentations and interviews at the State Cattleman’s Convention in Houma, she was honored as Louisiana’s Cattleman’s Association Queen.
According to Allen Blanchard Jr., her dad, Erin has been following him around the family cattle herd as his shadow from an early age. She filled the shoes for the son he never had, and still filled those shoes to over flowing with her energy, enthusiasm and love of the cattle milieu. She has become an articulate, knowledgeable spokesperson for the cattle industry, while still maintaining her studies, exhibiting her prize cattle, and winning Senior Showmanship this past weekend at the show.
The 18-year-old senior at Cecilia High School said last year was very memorable for her, even before being crowned Queen. That was because of her successful showing and award presentation of the 2015 LSU Livestock Show Grand Champion Brahman – Grey Heifer, and LA Bred Grand Champion, Brahman – Grey Heifer. The heifer placed first in its class as Early Yearling Heifer at every showing which included a dozen events.
Erin, also vice president of the Louisiana State Food and Fitness Board, passionately promotes the cattle industry, particularly Louisiana Cattle.
“I love agriculture because it made what America is today,” she said. “People followed the cattle across the western plains of the United States, and then took up farming. I do plan to continue that interest into my future education, as well.”
