THE 2016 PEPPER FESTIVAL POSTER was unveiled by artist Pamela Powers (left) with help from Kiwanian President George Choplin Jr. (center) and the 2016 Pepper Festival Queen Brittany Racheau at the annual Pepper Extravaganza held Aug. 27. This year’s poster represents 25 years of “Spicing Things Up” in St. Martinville. The artist used salvaged barn wood that were cleaned, planed, cut and burnt to create the canvas for this year’s piece. A cypress knee painted to look like a hot pepper is the focal point. Surrounding the pepper is art used for marketing past festivals. This year’s festival will be held Friday and Saturday, Sept.16-17 at the fair grounds along the Bayou Teche.(Sally Angelle)
