Down With The Old

Making Way For The New

Running slightly ahead of schedule, demolition of the existing 4,000 square foot public library, at the corner of Courthouse and Main in Breaux Bridge, began Tuesday, January 14 and by Thursday this phase of the project was all but complete with only debris and concrete slab removal remaining to be done. Deselle & Son Construction, out of Zachary, La., was hired by general contractor, Cangelosi Ward, to do the demolition work.

Breaux Bridge architect, Glenn Angelle, who designed the new library, which will be built on the site of the old one, said that an arborist should be on location, perhaps as early as this Friday, to cordon off the drip line of the oak tree which features prominently in the project's landscape design. Efforts will be undertaken to protect the tree and its root system while encouraging growth through soil aeration and fertilization.

Angelle said that the removal of utility poles and lines, along the property's border on Main and Courthouse streets will begin soon, after which preliminary work, in preparation for construction, will commence. Completion of the new facility is expected in the Spring of 2015.

The Breaux Bridge library is currently housed in the Park Plaza Shopping Center, near Winn Dixie, where it will operate until the new library is completed.
