Day of Prayer to honor SM lawmen

St. Martin Parish will hold a Prayer Service in conjunction with Governor Bobby Jindal’s call for a Statewide Day of Prayer on Monday, Sept. 14 on behalf of law enforcement.
Parish President Guy Cormier, Mayors Thomas Nelson of St. Martinville, Sherbin Collette of Henderson and Kevin Kately of Parks invite the public to the Prayer Service which will be held at the Parish Government Building in St. Martinville at 6 p.m. on Sept. 14.
Prayer Day chairman Councilman Mike Fuselier said “There has never been a greater time to pray for our law enforcement than today. These men and women are laying their lives on the line daily to keep us safe, the least we can do is lift them up in prayer.”
The Prayer Service will consist of prayers led my community clergy members, music, and a prayer address by Todd Trahan, director of Intercessor’s For Louisiana.
Gov. Jindal said “On Monday, Sept.14, we are welcoming Louisianians to unite in prayer for our law enforcement officers across the state. Too often, we forget the sacrifice and commitment these brave men and women make on a daily basis in order to protect our families and uphold the peace in our communities. Our officers understand the real risk and responsibility that comes with this career and we are extremely grateful for their dedicated service. We’re encouraging all Louisianians to take a few minutes out of their day to pray for and thank a local law enforcement officer for their unending commitment to our communities.”
Jindal noted that “nine law enforcement officers have died in the line of duty in Louisiana this year. We wish to acknowledge their sacrifice and the sacrifice of their families.”
He continued in his proclamation, “Louisiana is a state whose people turn to prayer when faced with adversity,” and that “we value each human being as a life made by our Creator, in his image, and thank God that every life is sacred.”
