Cold and Rain Notwithstanding the Move Must Go On!
On schedule, movers and Breaux Bridge library staff took the first of many steps towards realizing a long awaited dream - a new public library in downtown Breaux Bridge!
Despite the inclement weather, significant progress was made Monday in moving the operations of the existing library to their temporary location in the Park Plaza Shopping Center, next to Winn Dixie. According to Parish Librarian Charlar Brew, by that afternoon the adult fiction and part of the children's section had been moved. Brew said she is pleased with the new space which has roughly 700 more square feet than the existing downtown facility.
Brew commented that closure of the Breaux Bridge branch through January 1, was a wise decision considering the time consuming task of making the temporary facility fully operational. Brew added that, according to the most recent information available, demolition of the old library could start as early as the first part of January.
